Robert Lewis "Bob" Franks
Age 80, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2012 at his home with his family by his side.
Bob was born September 3, 1931 in Alma the son of Harold and Myrtle (VanDemark) Franks. He was a 1950 graduate of Vestaburg High School and married Beth Hartley on December 31, 1957. Bob served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He served for eight years, one of which was spent at the Pentagon, before his honorable discharge. He was a life member of the VFW.
Bob worked for the State of Michigan in the Department of Transportation and Communication. He was with the Department of Highway for 31 years, building and maintaining radio towers. Bob and Beth owned and operated the Point Bar in Alma for 27 years. He enjoyed playing pool, fixing things and was a sport fan, especially NASCAR and Indy Racing.
Bob is survived by his wife, Beth of Mt. Pleasant, four children, Kimberly (Eric) Grover of St. Johns, Lynette Franks of Mt. Pleasant, Robert (Christine) Franks of Cedar Springs and Jeffrey Franks of Chicago, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also a sister, Janis Green of St. Louis and a brother Dennis Franks of Vestaburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Joyce Sebring and two brothers, Richard and Gary "Pete" Franks.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 11 am at Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home in Alma with Pastor Carl Cecil officiating. Interment will be in Carson City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4-8pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Woodland Hospice or D.A.V.
